Stainless Steel 348/348H consists of about 17% to 20% chromium, 9% to 13% nickel, and stabilization through columbium/tantalum (approximately 5 times carbon). Carbon content is limited to 0.08% for 348 and 0.10% for 348H. Mechanical properties typically include tensile strength of around 515 to 620 MPa, yield strength of approximately 205 to 275 MPa, and elongation of about 35%. They exhibit excellent resistance to creep and carbide precipitation during sustained high-temperature service, with stable grain boundaries even under prolonged exposure. Sheet and plate forms maintain good forming and welding characteristics with consistent mechanical integrity throughout the thickness.
