Stainless Steel 348 Flanges are made of a niobium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel alloy consisting mainly of 18–20% chromium, 9–12% nickel, and iron, with the addition of niobium in proportions approximately 10 times greater than the carbon content to avoid carbide precipitation. It improves resistance to intergranular corrosion, particularly following welding or long-term high-temperature exposure. Mechanical properties are tensile strength of 515–690 MPa, yield strength of 205 MPa, and elongation of 40% in 50 mm. The flanges have good weldability, formability, and heat stability and are suitable for harsh operational conditions.
