SS 347/347H is composed of 17% to 20% chromium, 9% to 13% nickel, a maximum of 2% manganese, a maximum of 0.75% silicon, and stabilization through columbium/tantalum (at least 10 times carbon). The maximum carbon content is 0.08% for 347 and 0.10% for 347H. These alloys show tensile strengths of approximately 515 to 620 MPa, yield strengths of around 205 to 275 MPa, and elongation of about 35%. Stabilization minimizes grain-boundary carbide precipitation, improving resistance to intergranular corrosion at high temperatures. 347H provides better creep strength above 800 °F. These alloys combine strength, weldability, and thermal stability in thicker sections.
