SS 321 contains approximately 17% to 19% chromium, 9% to 12% nickel, and titanium (Ti) that stabilizes against carbide precipitation during heating, satisfying Ti ≥ 5 × (C+N), with carbon limited to 0.08% and nitrogen to 0.10%. The tensile strength is around 515 MPa (about 75,000 psi), and the yield strength is approximately 205 MPa (about 30,000 psi), with an elongation of roughly 35% in the annealed condition. It can sustain service temperatures up to about 1450 °C and has high creep resistance. The SS 321H variant has a higher carbon content (up to 0.10%) for better strength at elevated temperatures. These qualities make it ideal for thermal stability and mechanical performance in extreme environments.
