To improve high-temperature strength, stainless steel 309H pipes have a higher carbon content (0.04–0.10%) in addition to 22–24% chromium and 12–15% nickel. Up to 1093°C (2000°F), this austenitic stainless steel provides exceptional resistance to oxidation and scaling. Mechanical characteristics include an approximate elongation of 40%, a yield strength of 205 MPa, and a tensile strength of 550 MPa.
