SMS Unions are generally made from SS 304 or SS 316L with 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and optional 2–3% molybdenum (in SS 316L). These materials ensure good resistance to chemicals and dairy acids. Tensile strength is usually 500–620 MPa, yield strength is around 200–310 MPa, and elongation is 40%. The unions are precision-machined and polished to Ra ≤ 0.8 μm. All parts are leak-proof and can handle regular CIP/SIP cycles. Gaskets come in EPDM, PTFE, and silicone, tailored for food and pharmaceutical-grade specifications.
