The AWS Class E308/308L-16 electrodes contain around 19-22% chromium and 8-12% nickel with low carbon content. They are utilized for welding stainless steel, particularly grades 304 and 304L. Mechanical properties are high tensile strength that is typically within the range of 70-90 ksi or 483-621 MPa, excellent ductility, and good corrosion resistance. The low carbon content decreases carbide precipitation; therefore, they are best used for welding thin sections where superior weld integrity is required in food, chemical, and marine industries.
