SS 317L consists of 18 to 20% chromium, 11 to 15% nickel, and 3 to 4% molybdenum, with low carbon content at or below 0.03%. This composition increases resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding. It has a tensile strength of 485 to 620 MPa, yield strength of around 170 to 205 MPa, and elongation of about 35%. The high molybdenum content enhances resistance to chloride-induced corrosion. 317L maintains strong mechanical performance in harsh chemical and high-temperature conditions. The low carbon level prevents carbide precipitation, making it suitable for as-welded structures in aggressive environments.
