Stainless Steel 446 Sheets and Plates are crafted from high-chromium ferritic stainless steel, specifically designed to provide exceptional resistance against high-temperature oxidation, scaling, and corrosion. While Stainless Steel 446 can’t be hardened through heat treatment, it still maintains its structural integrity and oxidation resistance, even when exposed to elevated temperatures. Typically, the chemical makeup of Stainless Steel 446 includes 23–27% chromium, less than 1.5% molybdenum, and a low carbon content (≤0.20%), along with trace amounts of silicon, manganese, and iron as the primary element. Notably, it lacks significant nickel, which sets it apart from austenitic stainless steels, making it both more affordable and better suited for sulfur-rich environments. On the mechanical side, SS 446 boasts a tensile strength of around 450 MPa and a yield strength of about 275 MPa. It also offers good creep strength and oxidation resistance at temperatures reaching approximately 1100°C (2012°F), along with moderate ductility and thermal conductivity.
